Glasnost
I was recently reading about the final years of the Soviet Union. Refering to the introduction of multi-candidate elections, one author mentioned the political naivety as for as long as anyone could remember elections were a formality, with no real political significance. I thought, “That’s what it’s like here - whoever I vote for, the same person wins.”
Elections on Thursday. I have no idea who’s standing here. We’ve had leaflets from the LibDems and Labour. I’m not voting for either of them, so I might just have to wait until I get to the polling station to see who there is.
